He is usually wearing aristocratic clothing and a long black cape.
Personality
Strahd is a possessive, jealous man who is consumed with his need to control everything. He is haunted by the loss of his beloved, and will do anything to find and claim her as his own for certain this time. His boredom with his eternal existence leads him to become very excited when something new arrives in his world, giving him something to play with until he grows bored of it.
Abilities
Strahd is an extremely old and powerful vampire. He has had centuries to perfect his various skills, and seems to have access to powers not usually appearing in ordinary vampires. His most used skill is that of suggestion and charming, which he uses to hypnotize those he wishes to own or toy with. He can also shapeshift into a variety of forms, including a bat, wolf, and a mote of mist. Due to his vampiric nature, he cannot be killed through normal means. He is also an accomplished mage with access to a wide variety of spells and magics.
Strahd was once a powerful warlord who conquered most of the known realm in which he lived. When he discovered the valley of Barovia, he became obsessed with it, and claimed it as his new capital. As a young man, he was nearly killed on the battlefield, but was rescued by a traveler by the name of Tatyana, with whom he soon fell madly in love during the time she spent with him at his Castle Ravenloft. To his despair, however, Tatyana fell in love instead with Strahd's younger brother Sergei. He gave in to the promise of power from a dark force, and sacrificed his brother's life to seal a pact with it. Tatyana fled from him in the wake of his rebirth, and he watched her fall from a cliff to her presumed death. However, he never found her body, and became obsessed with the idea that she might still be alive, or at the very least, might reincarnate. In order to trap her soul, he created Ravenloft as his Domain of Dread so that her spirit would be forced to reincarnate within his domain, and began to wait patiently for her return, even as his new Domain became his prison.
